Water Management Solutions Across U.S. – Mexico Border
Hydrology and Climate Change– Water Management Solutions
Surface water availability is declining in many arid areas of the world. Particularly, water supply deficiencies influencing water flows and water quality have been reported over the past decades in the southwestern USA.
In particular, the Rio Grande River basin, shared by the US and Mexico, faces growing water scarcity, increased consumption, and potential conflicts. Disputes over water debts and shortages are worsened by inadequate data collection, leading to unreliable water quantity estimates which in turn lead to improper resource distribution.
Our research aims to use satellite data to enhance transparency in monitoring water flow, address discrepancies, and evaluate the cost-benefit of saving misallocated water to improve management and distribution across nations.
