Research Emphasis

Dr. Genhua Niu is a Professor in Urban Landscape and Water Conservation at the Texas AgriLife Research Center at El Paso and Department of Horticultural Sciences.  Her areas of special expertise are in environmental stress physiology and plant production under controlled environment. Her current research areas include 1) characterizing growth and physiological mechanisms of salt and drought tolerance for ornamental, vegetables, and bioenergy crops; 2) manipulating growing environment to enhance growth and quality of leafy greens, herbs, and transplants under controlled environment.

Dr. Niu received a Ph.D. in Horticulture from Chiba University, Japan.  Prior to joining Texas AgriLife Research, she worked at Michigan State University on ornamental crop production under controlled environment, the USDA-ARS Alternate Crops and Systems Lab, and a private company on micropropagation and nursery crop production in South Carolina.
